First identified in a 2001 GTZ-supported study of Chitral’s hydropower potential, the Laspur Murigram scheme sits on the Laspur River, with a gated 10 m high diversion weir creating a 1.5 million m³ reservoir and an underground powerhouse near Murigram, 20 km upstream of Booni. The optimised design delivers 560 GWh/year, including 201 GWh during four hours of daily peaking, at a firm capacity of 230 MW.
The scheme’s key features include a 33.5 km concrete-lined headrace tunnel with a 4 m diameter, a 1,120 m steel penstock, and a cavern powerhouse (50 m long, 26.7 m wide, 14 m high) housing three vertical-shaft Pelton turbine-generator sets of 44.33 MW each, connected to the national grid via a 132 kV switchyard.
As part of a joint venture including Germany’s IEGHD and RSW International, CIV Tech Associates delivered preliminary and detailed design, field investigations (hydrological, geological, geophysical, and seismic), and preparation of the PC-I and feasibility reports.

Implementation Approach
Delivered as an international joint venture with Germany’s IEGHD and RSW International, the two-and-a-half-year feasibility study combined field investigation with preliminary and detailed engineering design to establish the project’s technical and financial viability.
Conculison
The Arkari Gol feasibility study confirmed a viable 99 MW hydropower resource on the Lutkho River system, addressing chronic power shortages in Chitral’s remote valleys.
